Rehri-Fadi workers continue protest

JAMMU, Mar 27: Rehri-Fadi Workers Union, Jammu continued its protest dharna on 7th consecutive  day today.
They are agitating under the banner of  Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at Bakshi Park near Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar- Jammu to protest against the unwanted move of the Traffic police to remove Rehri-Fadis of poor workers, whose livelihood depends only on their small business. A large number of workers across Jammu city attended the protest and shouted  anti- administration slogans, demanding restoration of their Rehri-Fadis.
Addressing the protesting workers,  CITU general secretary Om Parkash, condemned the  move of traffic police- Jammu for forcibly removing of Rehri-Fadis, brutally beating the poor workers, destroying materials,   rendering hundreds of these poor daily earners jobless. He said that these poor workers are neither demanding employment nor  increment from the Government but they are demanding to let them to continue their self-employed jobs. He urged upon the present dispensation to allow the poor workers to reinstall their Rehri-Fadis at their existing place, pay compensation to the poor workers for the loss they suffered, and strict action against the persons responsible for unlawfully detention  of poor workers.
Sham Kesar alleged that Govt agencies have  created havoc by forcibly evicting Rehri-Fadis of workers who belong to down trodden section of our society and depriving these poor vendors to feed their families. He said that a memorandum of demands of Rehri-Fadi workers was handed over to Division Commissioner – Jammu on March 14, but still nothing has been done in this regard. He urged upon all workers to intensify their struggle till their demands are met.
