Reject peer pressure on drugs, remain cautious: DIG

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Rajiv Om Prakash Pande today appealed to the youth to remain cautious and not give in to peer pressure or persuasion from anyone to try drugs.
Speaking to the media after an event on drug de-addiction, Pande urged the youth to refrain from practices that could destroy their lives.

“Kindly take this message from J&K Police, from the DLSA, and the Civil Society of J&K to the people that those who get trapped in drug abuse, tell them to say no even to the ‘first try’… Never ever go for the ‘first try’, because it’s a trap,” he said.
He added, “If you do so, you are going to get trapped into this and this (trap) will lead you towards a very dangerous kind of end to your life.”
The event was held by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in collaboration with NGOs Kashmir Concern and White Globe, with support from Aryans Group of Colleges.
Earlier, while addressing a gathering, Pande emphasized the crucial role of law enforcement agencies, outlining strategies for effective intervention and enforcement. Jawad Ahmed, Chairman DLSA (PDJ), Srinagar, discussed the indispensable role of the judiciary in addressing the complexities of substance abuse within the framework of law and justice.
He also stressed building adequate infrastructure for dealing with the challenges of substance abuse, highlighting the legal remedies available to victims of drug abuse and their families.
