JAMMU, Sept 8: BJP Mahila Morcha District Jammu president, Rekha Mahajan today distributed LED bulbs in Ward 54 under centrally-sponsored “Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA)” scheme for registered domestic electricity consumers.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include State secretary, Mahila Morcha, Neeru Anand, District general secretary, Savita Anand, Inderjeet Kour, Pooja Chohan, Geetanjali Mahajan, Surinder Kour, Prerna, Surekha and other morcha activists.
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha called for making energy conservation through the spread of LED bulbs, a people’s movement. She noted that it is much more economical to conserve power, than to produce power. However, she added, it is much more difficult to conserve power, than to produce power.
She urged for generating awareness among people for the same. She appealed for extensive involvement of celebrities and eminent citizens in these programmes, who could motivate people to adopt LED bulbs.
The initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to spread the message of energy efficiency in the country. LED bulbs have a very long life, almost 50 times more than ordinary bulbs, and 8-10 times that of CFLs, and therefore provide both energy and cost savings in the medium term, she added.
She said that the State Government aims to distribute over 80 lakh bulbs to over 16 lakh households in the State. With the distribution of these LED bulbs, the State will have energy savings of 28.27 lakh units per day, she said.
The LED bulbs can be purchased from nearest Khidmat or CSC centres and will come with a replacement warranty for all technical faults for three years. The replacements can be done through any of the distribution counters. Consumers under the scheme would be able to buy high quality LED bulbs at a discounted rate of Rs 20 each, she added.
