JAMMU, July 22: Ahead of the Rakshabandhan festival Rekha Mahajan, secretary BJP J&K UT has appealed the people to boycott Chinese Rakhis and make a resolve for a “purely Hindustani Raksha Bandhan festival” on August 3 .
“Unlike flashy, well-cut Rakhis that are sold at attractive rates are made in China , the Indian version is mostly a simple thread but this time we have thrown a challenge to China by boycotting Rakhis made in that country. “We should ourselves make Rakhis and tie them on the arms of our brothers”, said Rekha Mahajan in a statement issue here today.
“Rakhi symbolises the love of brothers and sisters and in order to encourage the brave soldiers, our brothers , who are guarding the borders of the country and are the true protectors of all, this time we all should pledge that any Rakhi made by China or any Rakhi-related product from China will not be used”, she said. An estimated trade of $ 6,000 crore takes place every year in India on Raksha Bandhan in which China alone contributes about $4,000 crore. Not only is finished Rakhi imported from China but also Rakhi-making products like foam, paper foil, Rakhi thread, pearls, drops, decorative items for Rakhi are also imported, she added.
