Relaxation in PAP

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Govt relaxes PAP in more areas of Leh’ DE Oct 4.
The decision of the State Government to open more areas for tourists in Leh district is a welcome step. The relaxation in the Protected Area Permit (PAP) regime will increase the inflow of tourists particularly foreign to visit these restricted area. It is going to give a big boost to tourism industry in the region. It may be said here that with the onset of militancy in the Kashmir valley, tourist started thronging to virgin valleys of Ladakh. Since then Ladakh division is witnessing huge rush of tourists particularly from foreign countries. It has strengthened local economy by creating job opportunities for local people. Now, these tourists can explore the unexplored beauty of these prohibited areas.
However, the authorities should ensure that the huge inflow of tourists may not destroy the fragile ecosystem of the region. The Land of  Lamas is already under severe stress, as the region is witnessing the effects of climate change. The deteriorating eco-system is a cause of concern among the people here.
The  people as well as tourists should be apprised of grave consequences in case environment is tampered in any way.
Yours etc….
