Release salaries of teachers: Tarigami

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Nov 22: While expressing serious concern over the plight of teachers working under centrally sponsored schemes SSA, RMSA, SBM and NPS; CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami cautioned the Government that widespread resentment was brewing up among teachers, as they have not been paid salaries for past several months.
In a statement issued here today, Tarigami said that it is deplorable that this community has been put to sufferings and Government seems least bothered about their plight. How can they work for months together without salaries, he questioned and demanded immediate release of their salaries to enable them to shoulder their family responsibilities.
The CPI (M) leader said despite repeated reminders through deputations, demonstrations; the Government has failed to evolve a mechanism wherein, these teachers will get their salaries on time without any hassles. He accused the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for inordinate delay in releasing the funds to clear their pending dues.
He also questioned the helplessness of the present Government to take up the issue vigorously with MHRD which has created uncertainty among the ranks of teachers working under various centrally sponsored schemes. He stressed for special budgetary provision to tackle this problem once for all.
Referring to the agitating ReT teachers, he said the proposal of Ministry of Education for screening test of all categories of ReTs teachers is bound to create uncertainty among them. Instead of handling this issue recklessly, the Education Department must identify the institutions whose credentials are questionable for taking required corrective measures.
