JAMMU, Jan 2: The Relief Organisation has kept its circular in abeyance issued yesterday asking all zonal officers/Camp commandants to seek life certificates from all the registered relief holders in the month of April this year as per the prescribed format failing which their relief shall not be disbursed.
Relief Commissioner Ashok Pandita who issued a circular in this regard yesterday, however, kept the order in abeyance after it evoked a severe criticism from the migrants.
The circular issued by the Relief Commissioner, read that it has come to his notice that whenever any relief holder expires, the concerned head of the family does not inform the relief authorities at the helm of affairs to stop monthly relief benefits thereby continue to draw benefits in the name of a deceased soul causing fraudulent withdrawal and loss to State exchequer.
When contacted, Pandita told Excelsior that the circular was issued after he came to know that some migrants are not informing the concerned zonal officers about the death of their family member drawing relief on their name. He said, however, the circular was kept in abeyance after the resentment shown by the migrants.
