JAMMU, Oct 4: Kashmiri migrant relief holders and over aged youth held a protest demonstration in front of Relief Commissioner’s Officer against the continued apathy of the State and Central Governments towards them.
The protestors while demanding enhancement of monthly cash relief to the tune of Rs 10,000 per family accused the Government of total betrayal.
The protestors shouting slogans in support of their demands said that last time they had pinned high hopes in the Central Government that it would accord sanction to the State Government’s proposal of enhancing relief to Rs 10,000 per family but the hopes of relief holders were dashed to ground when Government enhanced Rs 400 per month per soul.
They termed the enhancement of cash relief at that time a cruel joke with relief holders who have no source of income except it.
The relief holders in an appeal to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah have sought his immediate intervention in the matter and urged him to pursue the enhancement of cash relief demand before the Union Government.
The protestors warned that in case the Government adopts dilly dallying tactics, the relief holders will intensify agitation.
Ravinder Kaul, Sundri Lal Kaul, Kuldeep Pandita, Maharaj Krishan, Raja Ji, Anil Matto, Shuban Ji, Sunil and others addressed the demonstration.
However when contacted the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita said that the issue was recently taken up in the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting of Union Home Ministry and it has urged the State Government to send a fresh proposal so that the demand can be examined again by Union Government in view of rising price index.
