JAMMU, Oct 7: The Chamber of Traders Federation (CTF) has described the relief measures with regard to GST regime as step in right direction.
In a meeting of the members of the Chamber of Traders Federation held today under the chairmanship of its president, Neeraj Anand, the members lauded the relief measures under GST regime announced on Friday by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely.
Anand said, “although we welcome the relief measures but this should be a precursor to many more modifications required in successful implementation of the GST regime.”
Appreciating the monumental work being handled by GST council, Anand added that there was an urgent need to address the problem of technical glitches resulting in inordinate delay in filing of various compliance reports. Anand further called upon the GST Council to abolish high tax brackets of 28 percent on items of common use particularly in Housing Sector like building material, electrical goods, cement, Plywood etc. so as to make housing affordable for common man.
Later, CTF in a resolution passed, lauded the role played by DyCM Dr Nirmal Singh for timely forwarding the demands of trading community to the GST Council. The members present also expressed gratitude towards the guiding role played by Praveen Khandelwal, (Secy General), Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in presenting the demands of Jammu Traders before the GST Council.
However, Lamenting on the irrational stand of JK Government on Toll Tax on Goods, Anand urged upon the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu to abolish the Toll Tax on Goods and earn the goodwill of common man and Traders as well.
Anand said that State Government should take a cue from the corrective steps taken by the Central Government lest the trading community take to agitational path.
