UDHAMPUR, Jan 8: Taking serious note of traffic congestion in the Udhampur town because of haphazard parking of vehicles outside the multi-retail units and shopping outlets, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur has ordered for a relook into the building permissions given to these outlets.
In an order issued by the DC, Dr Piyush Singla, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Udhampur along with Town Planner Udhampur have been directed to relook into the building permissions given to Easy Day, Vishal Mega Mart, V-Mart etc in the light of adequate parking communicated by such outlets while submitting their application for the building plan.
“Strict action shall be taken against the defaulters so that the city does not get congested because of inadequate parking spaces available with such units,” reads the order, adding that in future adequate parking availability shall be made mandatory for processing any building permission.
The order further makes its clear the instant report of CEO Municipal Council Udhampur and Town Planner Udhampur on the status of available parking spaces of various retail outlets should reach the office of DC Udhampur within 15 days without fail.
The Deputy Commissioner’s order mentions that maximum of shopping outlets in Udhampur town are without adequate parking space. Consequently the public visiting these spaces do not have any option but to park their vehicles on the roadside that leads to heavy traffic jamming.
