SRINAGAR, May 24: Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti today said that removing name from a medal is not going to affect stature of National Conference founder but it raises questions about mental balance of those who removed it.
She said that Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was the tallest leader and removing his name from a medal is not going to affect his stature but for those who have done this, it raises questions about their mental balance.
“Sheikh Abdullah is a leader who did great service to the people, brought people-friendly laws, and also ensured the integration of J&K with India. If they are on to destroy the identity of such a person after 70 long years, it is nothing but their mental bankruptcy,” she added.
She said that it is he who took a bold step and preferred India over Pakistan during the times of the two-nation theory.
The president of the Apni Party, Altaf Bukhari, termed removal of Abdullah’s name from the medal as nothing but dirty politics. “Removing the image of Sheikh Sahab from the police medal is nothing but dirty politics. He was a great leader and removing his image will not erase him from the hearts of people,” he said.
“Political differences apart, he was the tallest leader. I don’t know why are they out to hurt the sentiments of people,” he added.
