JAMMU, Oct 23: Shaheed Kissan Bawa Jitto Sangharsh Samiti (SKBJSS) has demanded renaming of SKUAST Jammu after the legendary Bawa Jitto Ji—a farmer who is widely revered in Jammu and many other areas for struggling for the cause of the farmers.
Addressing a press conference here today, Partap Singh, Sangharsh Samiti president said that Bawa Jitto was 15th century revolutionary farmer who sacrificed his life demanding justice for farmers but there is no institution in J&K after his name.
He said that even the BJP in its election manifesto has promised to rename of SKUAST Jammu after Bawa Jitto and to upgrade it as central agricultural university and now such promises should be fulfilled.
Partap Singh also said that presently the Government institutions are being named after martyrs, so SKUAST Jammu should also be named after Bawa Jitto.
“The elected BJP MLAs should raise the issue in upcoming Assembly session,” Singh maintained appealing all the Dogras, Paharis, Gujjars, Bakkerwals and others to support the cause.
Arun Seekay, in-charge campaign, Deepan, Devinder Bhau, Nikhil Sharma, Bhanu Pratap, Th. Dev Karan, Kapil Dev Mehra and others informed that a signature campaign for the demand will start soon after the Assembly session.
