‘Rename some institutions after Martyr Chuni Lal’

AKHNOOR, July 5: Batwal community here today held a meeting at Piri Trai which was chaired by Honorary Captain Panch, Kamal Dass Kaith and attended by a large number of Batwal community members.
As J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has announced that schools, colleges, bridges and other buildings will be named after great heroes and sons of the soil who have laid their lives to safeguard their nation, speakers in the meeting urged upon the LG to name a school or college or bridge or road in Akhnoor after Martyr Havildar Chuni Lal Sandhu.
They said that Chuni Lal was from village Tacharwan, Akhnoor and laid his life in an operation to flush out militants in Kashmir in 2007 and on the orders of then President of India, his name was mentioned in a dispatch by the Chief of Army Staff and was published in the Gazette of India in 2008 for displaying most conspicuous bravery, demonstrating battle field leadership and laying down life.
