The current Government has implemented a commendable policy of naming various significant landmarks, such as schools, bridges, tunnels, and other important places, after the brave martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Jammu and Kashmir has a rich history of such heroic individuals, and the entire nation takes great pride in their valour and dedication. Throughout the numerous conflicts between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir has consistently been at the forefront, serving as a major battleground. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir also endured the unannounced Kargil War. In addition to conventional wars, Jammu and Kashmir holds the distinction of enduring three and a half decades of a proxy terrorism war instigated and abetted by Pakistan, causing harm to our country through relentless acts of terrorism.
It is essential to acknowledge that the list of martyrs in this prolonged proxy war is extensive. This serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless brave individuals from Jammu and Kashmir who have selflessly defended our nation and its integrity in the face of adversity. Captain Tushar Mahajan, a dedicated officer serving in the 9 PARA, made the ultimate sacrifice for his nation. In February 2016, he valiantly gave his life while neutralising a terrorist during a terror attack on the JKEDI Building in Pulwama District. Captain Tushar had always harboured the aspiration of combating terrorism, and, tragically, he attained martyrdom at the young age of twenty-six. In honour of this brave son of the soil from Udhampur administration has taken the initiative to rename Udhampur Railway Station as ‘Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station.’ This renaming will stand as a sincere tribute, not only to Captain Tushar Mahajan but also to the entire Udhampur community, particularly the Army, given the presence of the Northern Command base in Udhampur. These martyrs will always live in our hearts and memories.
