Renowned poet Sagar Sehrai passes away

DODA, July 23: Renowned Urdu Poet, TV and Bollywood actor Abdul Qayoom, popularly known as Sagar Sehrai passed away today. He breathed his last in a Srinagar Hospital after prolonged illness.
Known for his Urdu and Kashmiri poetry, the 70-year-old teacher-turned-poet, Sagar Sehrai was also a veteran TV and film actor hailing from Bhadarwah, who has also worked in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s critically acclaimed movie ‘Shikara’ beside 50 TV serials of DD Kashmir and web series.
The unfortunate news of his demise surfaced on social media early morning sent shock waves and grief in the literary circles. His body was laid to rest at local graveyard in Bhadarwah at 6 pm, where hundreds of people gathered to take part in Nimaz-e-Janaza of the poet.
All sections of the society expressed their condolences on the sad demise of Sagar Sehrai and said that it’s a great loss to the Urdu/Kashmiri poetry in Chenab Valley.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of J&K Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed his sorrow and grief on the tragic demise of Sagar Sehrai. In his condolence message, Azad said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the sad demise of Sagar Sehrai. He will be missed by the literary world. I pray to Almighty to give him place in heaven.  I express my condolences to the bereaved family especially his wife. May God give them enough courage to bear this irreparable loss.”
