Research Council meeting of SKUAST-J held

JAMMU, Sept 14: The 14th Research Council meeting of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu was organized at Chatha under the chairmanship of Prof Dilip K Arora, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J.
Besides the members, Directors of Line Departments of J&K Government and external expert attended the meeting.
The Vice Chancellor in his introductory remarks, impressed upon participating scientists for urgent need to priortise the research at different levels for catering to the farmers needs. He laid stress on identifying areas for basic, strategic and adaptive type of work.
A road map be prepared for the next 5-10 years so that the final product of the research are made available to the farmers in a packaged form for improving productivity and generating livelihood & food security, he added.
The VC emphasised to take up work on monopoly crops including basmati, rajmash, vegetables etc.
During the technical sessions, Dr J P Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture presented the achievements made by different divisions of the faculties while Dr S K Gupta, Dean, FVSc & AH, R S Pura presented head ways made during the last one year in animal disease, feed management, animal health, value addition etc.
Coordinator School of biotechnology presented projects proposed on gene mining, proteomics, disease diagnosis, micro-biol, diversity etc.
In the concluding session the eminent scientists, Prof S N S Randhawa from GADVASU, Ludhiana, laid stress for further developing innovative research projects in the animal science.
The officers from Line Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Forest raised some points on specific subject for developing research projects and also assured financial support for carrying out the research work.
Earlier, deliberations of the meeting started with welcome address by Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, Prof Ajay Koul.
The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr K S Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu.
