JAMMU, Dec 7: Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) held a meeting at Amar Colony near here today in which a large number of prominent people from the Colony and Gole Gujral participated.
The secretary of the Trust, Sundri Lal briefed the gathering about the role of the Trust and its struggle for passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill to protect the Shrines and Temples in Valley.
He said corner meetings were held during the last fortnight at Roop Nagar, Lale da Bagh and Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra Bohri. He said delaying tactics by Government in passage of Bill has generated a lot of resentment in the community.
Addressing the meeting Dr.B.L.Handoo raised the issues concerning the marginalization of the community in the politico administrative set up of the State. Issues regarding lack of health care system for the elderly persons were also raised by the members. Some members raised the issue of the gradual thinning of the community on account of migration of the younger generations due to the lack of employment opportunities in the State.
Chairman of the PNBMT, Roshan Lal Pandita said “the time has come when we have to really impress upon the powers that be for the passage of the Temples and Shrines Bill and in order to demonstrate our collective will we have to participate in large numbers in the fortcoming Chetna Diwas falling on December 27”.
Today’s function was chaired by noted intelectual, Dr. B.L.Dhar who eulogised the role played by Pt.Prem Nath Bhat in creating social awareness in the Kashmiri Pandit society. He said that the Bhat Sahibs martyrdom was a wake up call for the Kashmiri Pandits regarding the dangers that were lurking ahead and as a result many community members got the warning in time to take evasive action.
Virender Raina, while speaking said that the Chetna Diwas has come to become a significant event in the social calender of Kashmiri Pandits as it lays down a template for the community to follow in the coming year.
The prominent who attended the meeting included the Principal of GL School Sd. Deep Singh, Shiban Khaibri, Kashmiri Lal, C.L.Pandita, Bushan Lal Dhar Hugami, Dr.C.L.Trakroo, K.L.Pandita, Raj Nath Bhat, Moti Lal Bhatt, Raj Nath Bhat, A.K.Raina, Rajinder Kumar, Chuni Lal, B.L.Zar, M.K.Bhan, Dr.M.K.Malla, Bipan Pandita and Ashok Kak.
