JAMMU, May 30: Sikh United Front (SUF), an umbrella organization of several Sikh bodies today demanded that at least 10 seats be reserved for the migrants of 1947 from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In a meeting of the Front held today through video conferencing under the leadership of Sudershan Singh Wazir, the members strongly pleaded that Delimitation Commission should earmark 10 Asembly seats (5 for Sikhs and 5 for other PoJK 1947 migrants) out of 24 reserved Assembly seats of PoJK, so that these people could have their proper representation.
They said thousands of people fled from the PoJK during 1947 and they are living in different parts of the J&K. They are scattered all over and moreover, such a system/ mechanism should ve carved out so that these refugees could elect their representatives which should comprise of only PoJK 1947 refugees as electors.
Wazir said that Sikhs have been denied representation since decades in J&K and they have suffered a lot. By reserving the seats for this community, the Government would be able to do justice with them.
Prominent among those who attended meeting included- D S Wazir, H S Raina, Mohinder Singh, Darbinder Singh, Kulwant Singh, Gajan Singh, Paramjit Singh and others.
