Reserve 8 assembly seats for PoJK DPs: Ex-MLC

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 25: Former MLC and senior Congress leader Ravinder Sharma has hit hard the BJP Government at the Centre for ignoring the basic demand of POJK displaced community for reservation of eight seats, viz 1/3rd share of the assembly seats reserved for residents of PoJK but just proposing one seat under nominated quota for them is injustice.
Reacting to the proposal of the Central Government to keep one seat in the assembly to be nominated from amongst PoJK displaced persons, Ravinder Sharma, who also belongs to POJK, said that against the demand and promise of BJP of reserving 8 seats for them besides also recommendation by Joint Parliamentary Committee in 2014 in this regard , only one nominated seat is based on what criteria or parameters, he questioned.
He said that nominating one member for over 12 lakh PoJK displaced community is a joke with them and that too under nominated quota. The community had been demanding one- third of the 24 seats reserved for POJK, since nearly 1/3rd of the population of 1947 migrated to this side in view of the raiders attack.
Ex-MLC said that over 40,000 PoJK families migrated in 1947, whose number of families has swelled to over 2.50 lakhs, so this is totally unfair. The BJP government must accept the report of JPC besides sanction of full package for them as recommended by Congress- NC Government in 2014.
