SAMBA, Oct 23: Apni Party Provincial president for Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today demanded reservation in employment in the Industrial sector for the locals up to 80 percent in the Jammu and Kashmir.
The former Minister was addressing a meeting of Apni Party leaders and workers in Samba to discuss the emerging situation and issues confronted by the people in the district in absence of an elected government.
The meeting was organized by Provincial president of SC Wing, Lovely Mangol in which District president for Samba, Raman Thappa, District president, Samba Women Wing, Priyanka and others were also present.
After listening to the grievances of the people, the former minister said that it is unfortunate that the authorities are unconcerned about the increasing unemployment in Samba district and other districts where the industrial sector exists. “The Industrial sector has violated the basic norms of providing employment to the locals,” he added.
He said things are going opposite in the Industrial sectors with huge investment with no development, no health care, no check on the pollution of the environment, water bodies, and unemployment is increasing with every passing day.
“These things are happening because there is no check from the industrial department on these industries units to hold them accountable for the violation of rules and contributing to creating a hazardous environment,” he said.
He said that the Industrial department has allotted industrial plots to even outsiders so that they can help in generating employment that would be beneficial for Jammu and Kashmir.
“Under the nose of the authorities, the Industrialists bring the workers – skilled and unskilled – from outside J&K and do not provide employment to the local educated youth in both these sectors of industries,” he said.
“Some local youth get employment in the name of contract for several months through contractors in violation of promises made by the authorities with the local people,” he regretted.
“The holding of Assembly elections and restoration of statehood is must to restore lost confidence of the people,” he further stated.
District president, Samba, Raman Thappa also highlighted various issues.
