Reserve Rajouri-Anantnag seat for STs: Hakla

POONCH, Oct 30: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and an intellectual has demanded reservation of Rajouri-Anantnag Lok Sabha seat for Schedule Tribe community. In a statement issued here, today he said this will in real sense ensure political empowerment to the Schedule Tribe people of JK UT. Terming the grant of reservations to STs a historic step taken by Narendra Modi Government at Centre, Hakla said this way a great anomaly done with this Tribe has been done away with by the present Government. Talking to a group of members of Gujjar and Bakkerwal community here he said that one Parliamentary seat be also reserved for the Schedule Tribe community in the UT. In this regard he demanded that the Rajouri-Anantnag Lok Sabha seat be reserved for ST Community under Schedule Tribe status norms as a huge population of Schedule Tribe community resides in this constituency.
Poonchi said that the ST community resides in the 20 districts of J&K mainly in hilly, mountainous and far-flung areas near forests and on the Indo-Pak border or LOC and their economic condition is very bad.
