On an early morning of 22nd December, full of dusty atmosphere, the universally unbounded beauty, Infinity, is running along the path to meet her counterpart Zero. She is back to share her dreams and ideas. After a while, Zero joins her with greeting and smile. Infinity, in her dreamy mood, starts singing that we are nothing and everything and starts uttering the names of Indian Mathematicians and with an excited voice tells the story of a genius -an Indian Mathematician S. Ramanujan who used to have discourses on the interpretation of God, Zero and Infinity with his friends and has said that Life is a combination of Zero and Infinity, and pointed out that the existence of human life is nothing but a zero.
It is a pure romantic fiction between Zero and Infinity in which attempt has been made to discuss challenges and solutions for establishing a strong model of Education. Zero is exceedingly charming as it plays a special role everywhere. There is only one which is unbounded for whom he felt naturally inclined. She is Infinity. Zero tells to Infinity to create healthy atmosphere, and food for livelihood. Rest automatically follows as a process including Education. Set up a mechanism for a happy life, safe shelter, and healthy food. Our thinking should be to search for that first.
Infinity replied that we have to find some relation between Education and these all. We have to search for great thinkers and planners who will generate new ideas by transforming Education from mere learning to changing lives. The most important task is to keep the youth of today engaged in a meaningful exercise of knowledge gain, information generation, and employment generators. The areas to improve are faculty and infrastructure, quality of research up to international standard, linkages with global quality institutions; we have to adopt an appropriate model of Education. We have to build a team of different capabilities. We don’t require copying foreign ideas. We have to find out the appropriate policy for our mass education. We have technology but our industries are not interested in utilizing it. They import cheapest stuff for making money. Free cross-border flow of intelligent and hard- working people makes the world a better place.
Native knowledge with global practice shall be considered along with vocational, agricultural, organic, technical, faculty improvement, skilled labour, spending funds for faculty and resources, solar energy, Sports like ice hockey, water sports, music and fine arts, languages, consortium between institutions. We should find out the solution based on our environment. Here we do the mass education. We should find out appropriate policy for our system which should be based on our requirement and environment.
Our main problem is population, and the subsequent resultant is corruption, and favouritism. Major population is unskilled and we have limited resources, no good industries, we have to buy from other countries. We have to open new departments and courses which are job oriented and have relevance in today’s age. A lot of work is needed from the ground up, staring from the school up to the university, to revise curriculum and synchronize academics with the industry, to engage students, teachers, and industry professionals in devising the curriculum. Provide greater opportunities of access to higher education with equity and excellence. Encourage institutions in public and private sectors. The expansion of Higher Education and manpower in Science and Engineering should be demanding need from industries.
We should try to raise hundreds of institutions that allow the opportunity for advanced degrees and other types of professional and vocational certification e.g. State run universities and colleges, private universities and colleges and cooperative universities as well as other schools offering a full range of course studies through full time and part time participation. Private schools have their own set of requirements and are open to all. There are dozens of private universities and other schools that offer course instruction in English leading to degrees or other certification.
We have to enhance a faculty development and support system by involving a large number of academic leaders who are academically sound, innovative, and with greater potentials and charged with providing training to thousands of talented junior faculty members and improving the quality of the whole faculty and to create conditions for knowledge generation through improved research facilities in universities and colleges and double the research funds. We have to introduce early childhood teaching and learning, Teaching of Science and Mathematics, Introducing critical analytical thinking and problem solving in Schools, Skills and Vocational Education, Teaching of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Sports, Theatre and Fine Arts, Disciplines like Science, Technical and Medical Education, Role of online learning and ICT in Developing Human Resources in the state, generating excellence in Research and Innovation in Higher Education and creating world-class institutions and spaces for excellence. Unprecedented expansion with many degree colleges, private colleges, universities and dozens of extension centres marked by a huge increase in number of students, has thrown up new challenges in terms of quality education, quality infrastructure, research facilities and teaching and learning process.
Zero enjoying the harmony of vision and sound, begins to explain that it is very difficult to bring about change in every system. It is not easy for people to change their habits. Societies which nurture innovations and continuous creativity should share it widely so that younger generations get motivated and feel challenged and the standards help in bringing out the best in them. Unless there is a hunger for innovative ideas, the funds will not flow towards innovators and good ideas will remain unimplemented.
An inexpressible heat of blissful joy began to ooze out of every pore of Zero and Infinity. They continued to enjoy the walk. The dusty particles began to disperse themselves due to the beauty and power of their discussions. The Sun arose and began to peep from the top of the mountains. The dust began to disperse after being adorned with the luster of the Sun. Infinity laughed with Zero to celebrate the day. The visions got printed on the screen of their minds.
