JAMMU, Mar 14: Resident Doctors today came in support of lady doctor, Gurmeet Kour, who was allegedly harassed by Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Chowdhary Lal Singh, and decided to boycott wearing apron and take out a peaceful protest march from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu to civil secretariat at 4pm tomorrow. Besides, the District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu also held demonstration outside Press Club Jammu demanding resignation of erring minister.
Meanwhile, acting on the issue, Deputy CM, Nirmal Singh said, “So far I have not received complaint in this regard, but I will look into the matter, take up with concerned authorities and act accordingly”.
“The RDA Jammu has unanimously decided to support our colleague, the aggrieved lady doctor, Dr Gurmeet Kour who was treated inhumanely by the Minister who is supposed to be our caretaker,” Dr Neeraj Sharma, president of the association, said during a general body meeting of the association.
He said the RDA Jammu, which has more than 500 active members has decided not to wear apron to protest the harassment of a lady doctor and we have apprised the GMCH authorities about this.
“We have decided not to wear apron till proper dress code is established in all health institutions across the State,” he said, adding to protest the arrogant behaviour of the Minister, we will also take out a peaceful march from GMCH Jammu to civil secretariat, tomorrow.
The meeting appealed Prime Minister , Narendra Modi, Governor of J&K, NN Vohra and State Chief  Minister, Mufti Mohd Sayeed to reign in the Minister, adding if no action is taken and the arrogant behaviour of the minister is not controlled, we will start resigning en masse to protest this.
The association alleged that false promises of security arrangement in GMC and Associated Hospitals made by the Minister have been exposed in just one week, as no security barring 4-5 private security personnel are available in the hospital premises.
Dr Neeraj Sharma alleged that Doctors’ Association Kashmir and RDA GMC Srinagar have extended full support to the cause of their colleagues in Jammu.
Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu also held demonstration outside Press Club Jammu to protest against the indiscriminate misbehavior of Health Minister with lady doctor on duty.
The demonstration was led by Anil Chopra-president DCC (U) Jammu. The protesting Congress activists raised slogans against Health Minister and demanded his immediate removal and resignation.
Provincial president, J&K Youth National Conference, Surinder Singh Bunty also slammed Health Minister for his tyrannical stand and unwarranted behaviour with the lady doctor posted as Registrar, Psychiatry Diseases Hospital.
Extending moral and ethical support to the victim medico, Bunty said that this kind of misconduct by a person having such a superior stature is highly obnoxious and cannot be tolerated in a civilized society. Demanding immediate stern action against the Minister, Bunty alleged that Lal Singh is habitual of creating scenes only to get undue public attention.
Sikh Intellectuals Circle (SIC), Jammu also strongly condemned the mis-behaviour and un-dignified conduct of Health Minister, Lal Singh, towards the lady doctor and demanded that he be immediately sacked to save the society from such arrogant and uncivilized Minister.
“Unfortunately Lal Singh is infamous for such type of arrogant behaviour since his last stint as Health Minister and now again within few days many incidents of mis-behaviour with doctors and paramedicos have taken place, but surprisingly his present new party BJP and State Government is silent over this serious incident”, SIC said.
