Residents up in arms against change in name of Natipora

SRINAGAR, June 14: The residents of Natipora have appealed to the Financial Commissioner of the state to retain their locality’s original name.
The residents in a letter to the commissioner have said the Natipora name was given to their locality by the revered saint Sheik-ul-Alam Sheik Nooru Din Noorani (RA) about 800 years ago.
“The revenue officials while making bandobast afresh have changed the nomenclature to Mehjoor Nagar for unknown reasons. Mehjoor Nagar name has been given to the paddy land of the residents of Natipora by the brokers who raised illegal colonies on it,” the residents said in the letter which has been signed by the Numberdar of the area.
