JAMMU, Oct 18: Residents of Kah Pota area in block Dansal comprising hundreds of women today blocked Kishenpur-Domail road for more than two hours in support of their demand for shifting of liquor shop from the area.
The protesters raised slogans against the district administration and Excise Department for their failure to fulfill their genuine and legitimate demand.
“We have been protesting against the functioning of liquor shop in the area for the past few years but the district administration and Excise Department have failed to resolve our issue. The liquor shop was opened against the norms as two schools and a temple are located adjacent to it. It has not increased the incidents of domestic violence in the area but also cast its shadow on the future of children”, the protesting women said.
They said drunken people always create nuisance in the residential areas, particularly during night hours and beat their wives in inebriated condition
“The administration has to a sympathetic call on either closure or shifting of liquor shop. The situation is so alarming that even school children have started taking liquor due to which they have indulged into various immoral activities”, Prashant Kumar, a protestor said.
The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation and block Jammu-Srinagar National Highway if the administration doesn’t either close or shift liquor shop from the area.
