Corporator asserts to aware masses about drug menace

JAMMU: Newly elected Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) from Ward Number 64 Kapil Singh Chib from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asserted to aware the masses about the drug menace so as to save the future of the youth.

The areas, which fall in this Ward are Durga Nagar, Swarn Vihar, Rajinder Nagar, Roop Nagar Enclave, Choudhary Lane, Chinore and Dogra Nagar.
While interacting with the residents it came to fore that they are facing problems on several issues including water scarcity, insanitary conditions, deplorable conditions of lanes and drains, damaged street lights etc. One of the major issue, which came to fore was non-availability of transport facilities.
“In this ward, people are facing problems due to water scarcity. Drinking water is not being supplied on regular basis. Due to irregular supply of drinking water, we cannot carry out our routine work including cooking food, washing clothes and utensils, etc”, Seema Sharma, a resident said.
“The insanitary condition in our ward needs immediate attention as it is the issue to be redressed on priority due to fear of breaking out of health related problems”, another resident said, adding that more manpower is required to tackle this insanitary issue.
The issue of dilapidated condition of the lanes and drains also came to fore while interacting with the residents, to which they asserted that they have elected a dedicated Municipal Corporator, who will sort out the issue in the shortest possible time.
“Non-availability of transport in our ward is a major issue to be resolved”, Suraj Singh said, adding that three mini-buses are being run by the newly elected Corporator, which is insufficient to cater to the needs of the school going children and working people including ladies.
Swaran VIhar resident Amit Kumar said, “We have been inconvenient due to absence of transport facility in the area. The problem has been highlighted time and again before the authorities, bit no one pays attention to this problem. Hope the new Corporator may take this issue with the concerned authorities”.
When contacted, newly elected Corporator of the Ward Kapil Singh Chib from BJP said that he will work for the overall development of the Ward.
All the issues including water scarcity, power, insanitary conditions, deplorable conditions of lanes and drains, damaged street lights etc will be taken up with the concerned authorities for their redressal on priority basis.
Regarding transport facility, he said that he will take up the issue with the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu for deployment of more mini-buses in his Ward.
“Anti drugs awareness campaign will be carried out in the Ward so that the parents keep watch on their wards from falling into the trap of drug menace”, he said when asked for action to be initiated against the drug menace.
