JAMMU, May 20:  The residents of Mohalla Darugiran here today held a demonstration and blocked the busy Residence road in protest against long power cuts and voltage fluctuation in the area which is being faced by them for about one month now.
The protest was led by senior Congress leader Raman Suri. Addressing the demonstrators Mr. Suri said that they are not against the Electric Department, that’s why he informed the Chief Engineer, Ashwani Gupta, well in advance and asked him to send some senior officer for talks at Residency Road, before dhana and the latter assured to send someone within 15 minutes. But, when nobody reached there even after two hours, all the people blocked the busy Residency Road, by squatting in the mid of the road under the scorching summer sun.
Later the dharna was lifted with the intervention of S.H.O. City, A.E.E., Mr. Puri who reached on the spot and pacified the agitating people and assured them that the problem will be solved..
Suri, apprised them that People of the area are suffering greatly with unusual power cuts, voltage fluctuations. He said,  this merely happens because both residential & commercial connections are under one transformer. It’s high time that the Department immediately splits Mohalla Darugiran residential connections and Residency Road hotel industry connections., he demanded.
Suri asked the Govt. and the concerned Department that despite paying regular bills, they have  been forced to live in stone age. He urged the Government to take immediate measures to provide basic amenities, otherwise the people will continue protests.
