Srinagar, Apr 5: The residents of the Barthana area of Qamarwari today staged a protest here against the defunct drainage system in the area due to which they are facing immense trouble.
Scores of residents of the area assembled here in the Press Enclave, raising slogans against the concerned department for putting them in trouble.
“The drainage in the area is defunct and there is nobody to listen to our woes; there is a 4 feet water that flows through the lane making it difficult for us to walk or move out of our houses,” said Hidayat Bukhari, one among the protestors.
The protestors said that they have not been able to move out for even prayers and if there is any medical emergency, they are going to face a lot of hardships.
“We are stuck inside our houses for the last several days, and there remains a constant threat to our children,” the residents said.
They appealed to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to address the issue without any delay and rectify the snags in the drainage system. “SMC was carrying out some work there and it is due that the drainage system has been rendered defunct; we are appealing them to start the work on the drainage system on a war footing,” the residents demanded.
