Srinagar, Oct 19: The residents of Gund Hassi Bhat in Lawaypora today demanded resumption of macadamization in the area which was going on and now has been stopped due to the intervention of several people with alleged vested interests.
The locals said that the macadamization of the road in Astan Muhalla, Bagh Pora which falls in the Lawaypora ward of the SMC has been stopped all of a sudden due to which the people are facing several issues.
“The work has been stopped all of a sudden while we have been demanding it for the last several years; it is a major road in the area and leads to the healthcare centre,” a local Shabir Ahmad said.
The works, as per the locals, were being carried out under ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’ and has been stopped in the name of drainage which has not been even sanctioned. “The move has left people suffering,” people said.
Another resident, Zeeshan Ali alleged that there are few people with vested interests who met the concerned councillor and asked her to write to the R&B to stop the macadamization putting drainage as the reason.
“If that is the case, then show us the allotment, sanction or even the estimate; it is not even there. We have met the SE drainage SMC and he has said that if there is not an outlet in the area till then there will be no inlet. The road is in bad condition and should have been repaired,” he said,
The locals appealed that the macadamization works should be resumed without any further delay. “Drainage is a big project and that will take time, we cannot wait until the same is sanctioned; we are appealing the concerned officials to see for themselves on the ground,” the locals said.
The residents of adjacent Shah Avenue Colony also said that the main 20-feet road leading to Colony has also not been macadamised and it is in dilapidated condition.
