RAJOURI, July 29: The residents of Ward No. 5 in Jawahar Nagar, Rajouri, held protest demonstration by blocking the Rajouri-Budhal road at two different locations to project their demand of proper supply of electricity and water.
The people were raising slogans against the concerned departments (PDD/PHE) and the district administration, Rajouri.
Men and women of Ward No. 5 took to the streets, first blocking the Rajouri-Jammu road outside the XEn’s office of the Jal Shakti Department. Whereas when XEn Jal Shakti Department Ashwani Kumar contacted, told that the shortage of water will be overcomed in coming days as a project under Amrit is going to be started shortly and there will be no shortage of water in the town. He also assured people that water will also be supplied to people through water tankers.
Simultaneously, another group of protesters blocked the Rajouri-Budhal road in Jawahar Nagar. The protesters expressed their frustration, stating that for the past 20 days, the supply of electricity and water has been inconsistent, causing severe hardships.
“In this humid heat, we are forced to protest for basic facilities like water and electricity,” said one of the protesters.
“Despite repeated requests for the restoration of power supply, the situation remains unchanged, directly affecting the water supply to our homes,” another protestor said.
The lack of essential utilities has compelled residents to fetch water from distant natural sources, causing significant inconvenience, particularly for women and the reason for this is non availability of electricity. Additionally, the power outage has disrupted the studies of school and college students.
The protest lasted for about an hour before a police party, led by SHO Rajouri Inspector Aejaz Wani, arrived at the spot. The police assured the protesters that they would take up the issue with the concerned departments and resolve the problem by evening. Following this assurance, the protesters peacefully dispersed.
