Srinagar, Mar 1: The residents of Stadium Colony in north Kashmir’s Baramulla today staged a protest against the district authorities for their failure in setting up a proper drainage system in the area.
The protestors took to the streets in protest and blocked Handwara-Baramulla Highway for hours to press for their demands.
The locals said that in the absence of a proper drainage system, the rainwater is now seeping into their residential houses and that they are apprehensive that their houses would suffer damages.
The residents said that despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities failed to lay a drainage system in the area.
“Following the heavy rainfall in the area, the rainwater had entered most of the houses and in absence of a proper drainage system, the clogged rainwater has entered our houses and damaged our property,” the residents said.
Later the protestors dispersed peacefully after the intervention of concerned Chairman Municipal Council Baramulla, police officials and the concerned Tehsildar.
The assured them that their genuine demands will be resolved soon. However, residents have threatened that would intensify protests if the authorities fail to address their grievances.
