KATHUA, Dec 30: The residents of Ward Number 5, Kathua held a protest demonstration against the opening of another wine shop in the Ward, near Shaheedi Chowk.
A large number of people including the women drawn from nearby wards assembled in Ward 5 and proceeded to DC Office to register their protest.
The protesters led by councilor, Ashok Sharma and supported by various political and social organizations submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua. Councilor Ashok Sharma said that two wine shops and Bar is already operating on Shaheedi Chowk to Main Bazar road in Ward 1 opposite to Ward 5. This area has become a public nuisance and traffic menace with huge rush of people creating serious problem to common man to move out in this area. This area is now known as Sharabi road, he added.
He said despite the existence of temple, school, a mall house, women business establishments, etc two wine shops and a Bar is already operating in this area. Despite the opposition by public, the district admiration issued NOC to two wine shops, he added.
Now another wine shop is going to be opened in the area. The residents oppose strongly to opening of third wine shop in this area which will create a bad name in the society and also spoil the youth. Ashok Sharma said many youth have already indulged in drug menace. But district administration is not bothered to save the future of youth. The administration is issuing NOC without any consent of local residents, he added.
He said as thick population is residing in Ward 5 and 6 besides Ward 1 and 2 opposite to it, they asked the administration to stop this practice and don’t issue any NOC to third wine shop. They warned that in case the NOC for third wine shop was issued a mass scale agitation would be launched.
