JAMMU, July 8: The residents of Marh Block held protest against Power Development Department (PDD) here today and blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
A large number of residents led by Ex-MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary assembled near Dogra Chowk and held protest against Power Development Department (PDD).
Amid slogans against PDD for imposing unscheduled power cuts, the protesters blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
While talking to the media persons, Sukhnandan Choudhary said that PDD is imposing long duration power cuts in their areas, thereby creating problems for the people especially old ones.
“The PDD officers gave excuses of overloaded grid stations”, he said and questioned why the grid stations were not upgraded six months back if the PDD officers know that they are overloaded.
He alleged that power cut has been increased and for few hours’ power is being supplied during these hot and humid weather conditions. He warned to block Jammu-Poonch highway after 10 days if their issue is not redressed.
“The study of the students is also badly hit”, another protester said, adding that water supply is also affected due to long duration power cuts.
The movement of traffic remained disrupted and long traffic jam was created due to protest on river Tawi bridge.
After getting information, ADC Jammu along with senior police officers reached the spot and assured the protesters that their issue will be sorted out within 10 days.
On the assurance of the ADC, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
