RAMBAN, Dec 6: The residents from different areas of tehsil Banihal held protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for imposing long duration power cuts.
Hundreds of residents of tehsil Banihal assembled outside grid station at Tethar and held protest against Power Development Department (PDD). Amid slogans, they flayed PDD for imposing long duration power cuts.
While speaking, the protestors lambasted the PDD for imposing long duration power cuts in the ongoing bone chilling weather.
“It is almost difficult for the people especially women to carry out daily chores in absence of power supply”, they said, adding that in the ongoing cold weather conditions, the PDD is imposing long duration power cuts in their areas, which is also creating problems for the old age persons and students.
“How our children can compete with the rest of the world due to non availability of electricity”, they asserted.
They said that UT administration has failed to provide basic facility including electricity to the people.
Later, the protestors also entered into the grid station and shutdown the feeders alleging that the regular power is being supplied to the companies engaged in the construction work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
They also said that if the administration will not solve the issue in the shortest possible time, then they will block the Jammu Srinagar National Highway and protest aggressively.
After getting information, officials from Tehsil Administration Banihal and Police Department rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them that their grievance related to uninterrupted power supply will be forwarded to the PDD for early redressal.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed peacefully.
