Residents protest against PHE Deptt

KISHTWAR, Aug 4: The residents held protest at Kuleed Chowk against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for their failure to supply drinking water.
A large number of residents of Kuleed, Wasser and Panditgam area assembled at Kuleed Chowk and raised slogans against PHE authorities for their failure to supply drinking water in their areas on regular basis.
The protestors alleged that in last month only they have been supplied water for few days. They alleged that PHE authorities are deliberately ignoring their areas as a result the people residing in Zelana, Kuleed, Wasser, Bun Kuleed and Panditgam are suffering since long on account of shortage of drinking water.
“Earlier, we used to get drinking water thrice a week but now are getting once in a fortnight”, they said, adding that various times they informed about shortage of drinking water to PHE authorities, but no action has been taken till date, which forced them to come on roads.
They said the whole area is being managed by some PHE workers who have become commission agents of department and officials. The protestors alleged that though department has provision of supplying water through their own tankers to the effected areas but unfortunately tankers have been deployed for VIPs ignoring the general consumers.
“Not only this, it has been seen that PHE tankers are supplying water even for construction works which is unfortunate and depicts how serious the concerned authorities are”, they added.
Due to protest, the vehicular movement on Kishtwar-Sinthantop highway and Kishtwar-Padder road got stranded.
After getting information, DySP Headquarters Nihar Ranjan and SHO Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jeelnai rushed to the spot and assured the protestors of taking up the issue with the concerned authorities for redressal.
On the assurance that water will be supplied in their area from today evening, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
