JAMMU, Dec 27: The residents of Puran Nagar area in Ward Number 31 staged protest against the poor functioning of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) as the nallah passing from Vikas Lane to Puran Nagar has been completely blocked and the dirty water is overflowing causing lot of inconvenience to the locals residing in this area.
The local residents expressed resentment towards the casual approach being adopted by the JMC authorities.
During the protest, District Vice President Congress Som Raj said that despite repeated requests and phone calls made to CTO JMC, no action was taken on ground for cleaning of the said nallah and the concerned officer only made false promises on phone and never took action for desilting of nallah passing through Puran Nagar.
The locals of the area also alleged that the desilting of the said nallah has not been taken up for last four months as a result of this the nallah is full with silt and garbage and has become a health hazard for the general public.
While speaking, Som Raj appealed to JMC Commissioner to intervene and direct the CTO to immediately start desilting work of nallah by deploy men and machinery. “We will intensify our agitation if JMC authorities failed to desilt the nallah as soon as possible”, he added.
Among others present were Roshan Lal, Tarseem Lal, Pawan Kumar, Joginder Kumar, Shanku Kumar, Sat Paul, Raj Kumar, Shiv Dyal, Dharam Paul, etc.
