JAMMU, Apr 11: The residents of ward number 38 staged protest against Public Works Department (PWD) at Main Chowk Janipur, here today.
The protesters led by Ex-Corporator ward number 38   Darshana Bandral and Raveesh Mengi, President LAKSHYA blocked the vehicular movement. They raised slogans against the PWD and the concerned contractor to whom the work for the black topping of the approach road of Nasseb Nagar Janipur and approach road of Sector 4 Pamposh Colony, Janipur has been allotted and sanctioned since last five months.
They stated that it is very unfortunate on the part of the PWD authorities that neither the authorities have asked the contractor as to why this particular work has not been taken over by him which has been allotted and sanctioned through the MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma despite of various reminders given by the MLA to the concerned authorities. It seems that these officers are spoiling the image of the Central Government headed by Narendra Modi, who has taken the oath of Swach Bharat mission across India.
“We are facing lot of inconvenience in commuting to and fro with the damaged roads which are really in a shabby condition. The road is also not worth for old people to commute. The road is in dilapidated condition and needs immediate repair and black topping”, one of the protesters said.
The protesting people appealed to the PWD authorities to intervene in the matter and get the work done on priority basis by instructing the contractor concerned. If the contractor is not willing then execute the work by other means as per the guidelines of the Government, otherwise the matter will be taken up with the Minister concerned, they added.
After getting information, police officials rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters, but the later remained adamant and continued their protest.
Later Additional DC reached the spot and assured the protesters that their issue will be resolved.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
Among others present were Lalit Luthra, President Ward Number 38, Vikrant Khullar, Surinder Dhar, SL Raina, Kuldeep Bhat, Sonu Rajput, Ajay, Sanjeev Khajuria and Vipan Khajuria.
