Residents urge Guv to solve Ban toll plaza issue

REASI, July 1: Residents drawn from various parts of Reasi today held a meeting during which they protested high toll charged from Reasi vehicles irrespective of the fact that they use only 19 km road.
“The toll plaza at Ban on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has become a burning issue from the very first day as it charges excess toll tax even for a little stretch of road used by local residents of Reasi district. The toll plaza at Ban is charging Rs 135 for every entry for using only a small stretch of approx 19 kms, locals said in the meeting.
They said private vehicles which go to Katra and Reasi have to pay an amount of Rs 135 per side even after using only around 19 km of national Highway. “We protested several times against this toll plaza and approached several times to district administration and politicians but all in vain,” said a youth present in the meeting. He said If NHAI issues passes to Katra people, why not to us as we are also using the same road.
Locals threatened to launch an agitation if the administration and Government did not sort out this issue at the earliest. They also urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into the matter personally.
