JAMMU, Oct 26: Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir Management Trust Gandhi Nagar here today passed a resolution moved by the Trust president, Gulchain Singh Charak to shift the sports building, which has been declared unsafe, to some other place and the area which was being earlier a part of Dussehra Ground be restored for public use during the festival.
The resolution was supported by the leaders of almost all political parties present during Dussehra celebration on October 24.
In a handout the Trust stated that Dussehra festival is being celebrated for the last 60 years in spacious Dusshera Ground but a part of it was encroached by sports authorities, scouts and guides offices on one side and by a school on the other side making it impossible to take care of huge congregation visiting the place to watch burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath during Dussehra festival.
“With this encroachment thousands of people stand on roads and on rooftops of houses adjoining Dussehra Ground to watch the burning of effigies which becomes a matter of concern for administration and the organizers if some untoward thing happens,” the handout stated appealing to the LG, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and DC Jammu to give due cognizance to the resolution passed by the general public so that the encroached land should be retrieved and restored to the Dusshera Ground.
