Resolve issues to end meat shortage in Kashmir: KEA

Srinagar, Apr 7: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) today expressed concerns over what it called an artificial shortage of meat in the valley during the holy month of Ramadan and advised the stakeholders to resolve the issue amicably.
Addressing a press conference here, Farooq Ahmad Dar, co-chairman of KEA said that people in the valley consume more meat during Ramadan; however, due to a shortage of meat, he said, the citizens face difficulties.
He urged the administration to resolve the issues with the butchers and consider their demands sympathetically.
Dar said that last year the Divisional administration had fixed the price of meat at Rs 535 per Kg, “but Prices have not been raised since then.”
He said that since the Alliance had settled the matter between the stakeholders as a facilitator the matter last year, “it was its moral obligation to end the deadlock between the Stakeholders at this stage as well.”
He urged the administration to solve the issues amicably so that people do not face a shortage of meat during Ramadan and Eid. He also urged the administration to withdraw the March 18 notification which was extended for six months.
“It was a fact that fuel prices had gone up during the last year. As a result, transport fares also increased,” he said while demanding the government should take into account all the factors.
On the occasion, he also urged FCS&CA to stop sealing the shops of butchers until the matter is settled.
