Srinagar, Apr 4: High Court has directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to convene a meeting within the ensuing week with the officials of police, SMC and Transport Department to chalk out the strategy to resolve the issues being faced by the public due to traffic congestion.
The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice MK Hanjura while hearing a PIL on streamlining the traffic congestion and its allied issues, directed the Divisional Commissioner.
Kashmir to call a meeting with Inspector General of Police traffic, Commissioner SMC, Road Transport Officer Kashmir and Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic on or before April 11 and chalk out the strategy for addressing the issues of citizens of city Srinagar and report the court about the outcome of meeting.
During the proceedings of the case assistant to amicus advocate Ateeb Kanth by way of report apprised the court about the difficulties faced by the general public due to traffic congestions and encroachment by shopkeepers on pavements.
Court after this appraisal by advocate Kanth expressed its anguish over the casual approach on part of authorities especially SMC in removing the encroachments by vendors and shopkeepers. Court said the work is very slow.
SMC counsel submitted before the court that majority of work taken up by SMC with regard to identifying vending zones for relocation of street vendors, removing of encroachment, establishing signages etc have been partly complied with and are in the process of ensuring compliance of court directions.
Court directed the officials to put all the papers and court directions before Divisional Commissioner during the ensuing meeting
About the issue of setting up of LPG dispenser at a specified place, court has been informed that nine months time was given for setting up of the same but the concerned DC has not granted NOC as there is pollution apprehensions.
Court directed that issue be decided in the ensuing meeting with
Divisional Commissioner keeping in mind the orders of Court and DC. Court directed the result be communicated to the court on next hearing.
