Resolve water crisis: DB to Govt

JAMMU, Sept 3: Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Tashi Rabstan today came to the rescue of common masses and directed the Government to resolve the water crisis.
Taking suo-moto cognizance of the news-reports regarding water crisis in Jammu, High Court this morning issued notice to the Divisional Commissioner and Chief Engineer Jammu.
At this stage, Senior Advocates MK Bhardwaj, KS Johal, AV Gupta, UK Jalali, Surinder Kour brought to the notice of DB the prevailing situation and submitted that strike by the employees of PHE Department can be settled at the end of the State but public at large should not suffer because of non supply of water.
AAG HA Siddiqui accepted notices on behalf of Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Chief Engineer PHE Jammu and assured the Court that both the respondents or at least Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering shall cause appearance after break.
When the matter again taken-up in second half, Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer PHE appeared before the court and apprised the DB about the situation and the steps taken to overcome the crisis.
Division Bench appreciated the efforts made by Shantmanu but at the same time emphasized that the Government should mobilize all the resources at its command to defuse the present crisis without any waste of time. The DB directed Registry to list the PIL tomorrow.
