LEH, Aug 12: Buddhist spiritual leader, Dalai Lama today stressed the need to respect each other’s faith and belief to make the 21st century an era of peace and tranquility.
Interacting with youth in a function organized by the Youth Wing of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Dalai Lama said, “the survival and peace of each individual entirely rest on others as such we should look forward to a holistic and peaceful future”, adding “intelligence alone can’t bring peace but if combined with positive emotions could yield ultimate source of peace that’s love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness and contentment”.
Responding to a question regarding increasing trend of suicides among the youth, the Dalai Lama said, “existing modern education system is lacking inner and mental values. Too much emotions and lack of holistic values sometimes provoke such extreme step, therefore, quality education with analytical mind and understanding the meaning of human life could definitely minimize the suicidal rate in the whole world”.
He asked the youth of Ladakh to become fully and qualitatively educated with the values of their religions and give up attachment, anger and hatred as these negative forces were the root cause of bringing disturbance in the life.
“The monasteries of Ladakh should be the learning centres rather than the Puja Centres. The reciting of Matras and keeping blind faith on the rituals without knowing the real meaning of Buddha-Dharma is of no use”, Dalai Lama said.
“When a crisis is likely to occur in a society, the people of the co-existing religions mush sit together, share their views, exchange dialogue very calmly and serenely that will surely help to keep the crisis away from the society and maintain peace”, he said.
Earlier, President Youth Wing of LBA, Rinchen Namgyal assured that LBA Youth Wing would leave no stone unturned to maintain the legacy of forefathers, who had passed on a great tradition of communal harmony in the region.
