Srinagar, Dec 19: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and Member of the Legislative Assembly Zadibal, Tanveer Sadiq, said today that the dual power system in Jammu and Kashmir is ineffective and continues to exacerbate the hardships faced by the people.
Speaking to reporters, Sadiq said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had elected their Government with a significant majority, and the Government, in its first Cabinet meeting, passed a resolution demanding the restoration of full Statehood. “This resolution has been submitted to the Prime Minister of the country,” he said.

He also referenced the Supreme Court’s directive to restore Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible. “This is a significant directive, not a minor issue. Both the Supreme Court resolution and the Prime Minister have clearly promised Statehood will be restored after the elections,” he said.
Hoping for restoration of Statehood, the NC spokesman said, “We hope statehood is restored soon, ending the dual power system and addressing the issues people face. While challenges remain, we are doing our best to minimize them.”
Sadiq also noted that National Conference leader Omar Abdullah had recently met the Prime Minister in a positive atmosphere. “We will seek another meeting with the Home Minister to discuss critical issues, including Statehood and dual governance. Many matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir are directly handled by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and we hope for timely solutions to the people’s problems,” he said.
The MLA said the party is committed to increasing rations soon. “Give this Government a little time. Despite the dual power system, we have made significant decisions within a month, including the promise of providing 200 free electricity units starting in March,” he said.
He clarified that law and order, along with the Home Department, remains under the purview of the MHA and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. “We respect these boundaries and ensure our departments do not overstep them,” Sadiq concluded.
