I would like to request J&K State Govt to restore original name of Govt College for Women Parade Jammu as Maharani Mahila College, Jammu.
Without going into the controversy why the name of this college was changed when there was nothing wrong to keep this name alive like that of many other Degree Colleges who are using their old names.
This college of great importance for the daughters of J&K was opened by Maharani Tara Devi who was the queen of Maharaja Hari Singh. ‘The College was opened in the year 1944 by the Maharani at a time when the girl education concept was not even thought of like a distant dream. The girls were confined within four walls of their house. At this time we should appreciate the progressive vision of Maharani of the State who brought significant change in the social system of that time. It is pertinent to mention that various successful countries have preserved their historical heritage and remember good deeds and name of their ancestors. Those so called well wishers of Jammu should see what harm has been done to cultural heritage of this region during their power packed period. It is hoped that the present State Govt acts as per wishes of the people to save at least some part of the lost glory.
