Restore road connectivity, ration supply in upper areas of Poonch: Aijaz

POONCH, Jan 9: Provincial president of Youth National Conference and former legislator from Poonch Aijaz Jan today urged the LG Administration to restore road connectivity and supply of ration in ration depots in upper reaches of Poonch as heavily accumulated snowfall has put life in haywire and residents of the upper reaches of Poonch in dire straits.
Interacting with people during his visit to affected areas, Aijaz Jan said the majority of the hamlets in the district, particularly the upper reaches, have become landlocked with the main town due to huge accumulation of snow on the roads. He lamented that the administration is yet to wake up from the slumber to restore power and water supply and take measures for snow clearance in the far flung areas.
Aijaz Jan noted that the heavy down pour and snow has hugely affected the local populace in the entire district, particularly in Gali Maidan, Sawjiyan, Sadwi, Paghwadi, Chambar Kinari, Atoli, Peeran, Malkan, upper Morban, Loran, Barachad, Bayela, Shahpur, Kaerni, Haweli, Saloniyan upper, Bandi Kaman Khan and Fatehpur Islamabad. He said people can’t leave their homes in most of the villages as the roads are inundated with slush and snow accumulated since yesterday.
He expressed regret that the concerned departments vested with the responsibility of snow clearance from roads are yet to show their presence with men and machinery to discharge their designated duties. “The weather vagaries have been compounded with the shortage of ration at the local PDS stores, and acute scarcity of Kerosine and LPG cylinders,” he said.
While seeking immediate redressal of grievances of the general public in view of snowfall and heavy rains in the district, Jan impressed upon the administration to ensure that the road connectivity and public utility services are restored in the district without any further delay.
