Restore statehood before Assembly elections: Gupta

JAMMU, June 21: In view of Prime Minister of India’s statement for holding elections in J&K, Provincial president of J&K National Conference for Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta demanded that statehood should be restored before conducting Assembly elections in J&K.
While interacting with the District presidents of Jammu Urban, Rural “A” and Rural “B” at party office here today, Gupta impressed upon the District presidents and others to gear up for the forthcoming Assembly elections for which Election Commission of India has also issued special summary revision in J&K.
He said these elections are crucial for the J&K as for the last ten years no elections for the Legislative Assembly have been held. The people of J&K are desperately waiting for the elections to be announced so that they are able to choose their representatives to sort out their genuine issues.
R L Gupta said that it will be good for the people of J&K to restore statehood before announcing the Assembly elections to strengthen the democratic values. The J&K has remained a historical state in the past and it deserves statehood in the larger interest of the people of J&K.
