KATHUA, Oct 2: Urging Government to accept Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) as residential proof, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) senior leader and Ex-MLC, Thakur Balbir Singh today demanded restoration of Statehood to J&K.
Addressing one day convention of party at Dayala Chak in Kandi belt area, Balbir Singh strongly projected various issues of the people of this belt.
Balbir Singh, while speaking on the occasion, said that the people are unhappy with the Modi Government for its inability to do justice with Jammu region.
“Jammu is being taken as far granted by the Government thinking they have gained 25 Assembly seats. People remember every promise made with them by the BJP in election campaigns. There is no job for the unemployed, no development in the region and already initiated developmental works have stopped. No funding to departments for various developmental projects,” said Thakur Balbir.
JKPCC leader further said that under BJP rule, Kandi areas of the region have become popular for Toll Plazas. “Lakhanpur has become reason for resentment against the installation of Toll Plaza. “We will not tolerate such moves of Modi Government,” he added.
Former legislator said the PRC holders should not be forced to unnecessary harassment and the Government should accept the PRC as proof of residence. “The people have been compelled to line-up for domiciles. The domiciles should be given to the outsiders, not to the actual residents of J&K,” he said.
Singh said people have many other issues and the Government is trying to divert their attention from the failed schemes and mis -governance following which the people have been compelled to get domiciles.
“No other work is initiated for public welfare,” he said. He referred to the issues of the Kandi belt in which people have been troubled with unscheduled power cuts and water scarcity, worst condition of roads. There is no public redressal effort by the Government. People feel totally neglected.
The discriminatory attitude of Government towards Jammu region has annoyed people and there is general feeling among the people about step motherly treatment to them, negligence of farmers, students and unemployed youth and unemployment in Kandi areas, he added.
Meanwhile, a number of speakers highlighted various issues in the convention. The speakers questioned the delimitation process and demanded establishment of Kandi constituency and Pahari constituency in Kathua district.
