SAMBA, June 28: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has demanded reinstatement of Statehood and enhancement of residency period for getting domicile in Jammu and Kashmir.
The issue was discussed during a meeting of Bari Brahmana block of JKAP organized by Saleem Choudhary at Sarore adda area in which senior leaders of JKAP including former Minister Dillawar Mir, former Minister Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra and others were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilawar Mir said that the JKAP is committed for the restoration of Statehood to the Jammu and Kashmir and patched for enhancement of minimum residency period i.e. 25 years in J&K to get domicile certificates.
“The period for domicile should be enhanced to 25 years in Jammu and Kashmir and less than, this period is not acceptable to us,” said Manjit Singh and opposed the existing rules on residency to get domicile certificates.
During the meeting, industrial labourers and farmers highlighted their issues in Bari Brahmana and Vijaypur tehsil before the senior party leaders. Manjit Singh assured them that they will get their issues resolved. “The farmers are facing problem because migrant labourers have not returned to sow paddy in the fields. In view of shortage of labourers, the farmers have become helpless,” he said and demanded Government’s attention towards the suffering of the farmers.
“Government should ensure that the local labourers get their jobs back with the re-activation of the closed industries in Bari Brahmana and other areas,” said Manjit Singh.
Vikram Malhotra said that Jammu is not separate from Kashmir. “Both Jammu and Kashmir are part of a unit and both will fight for their rights i.e. restoration of Statehood,” he asserted.
