SAMBA, Feb 1: Former Minister and District Congress Committee (DCC) president, Manjit Singh today appealed the Government to restore statehood with all reserved rights to the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking during the monthly meeting of the party workers at Vijaypur, Manjit Singh expressed concern over the plight of the Dogra state which had its over 100 years of glorious history written with bravery.
The downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir has deeply hurt the sentiments of the people who always feel proud to be from the State where their forefathers gave their lives to the foundation of the erstwhile State, he said, adding, Government should understand the sentiments of the people as they would not bear more.
Singh said that there is a need to take serious view on the demands of the locals regarding reservation in jobs, colleges, professional colleges and land. “Reservation rights on the land, admission in educational institutions, professional institutions, and in Government jobs should be given to the locals so that they can save future of their children,” he said, quoting some examples of the educated youth without job.
“Educated youth needs job. Instead of misleading with political slogans, the Government should generate avenues for these educated unemployed so that their skills can be utilized in right direction for nation building,” he said.
He said people are in anger and may come out on roads, if their demand for statehood and reservation rights is not accepted as early as possible.
Babbal Gupta, Block president B B Babu Lal Bhagat, OBC leader Madan Chalotra, president OBC cell, Samba district Bharat Bhushan and many other Congress leaders also spoke on the occasion.
